If you're one of the many
Americans who wish they could do something like Peace Corps but simply
can't commit to a long-term project because of life's obligations,
consider volunteering with RWE in Dominica. You'll spend your time working with kids who desperately need your time and attention. RWE staff will supervise you as you teach cooking, sweing, woodworking, computer skills -- or even general studies. Don't worry if you're not an expert -- we'll be there to guide you throughout the week. Even though 9 days doesn't seem like a long time, you'll be surprised by how gratifying the experience is. The children's smiles are guaranteed to melt your heart and wash away every tension and care in the world. During your stay on the island, you'll not only get to experience the "volunteer high" of making a real difference in the lives of these children, but there will also be free time for you to explore the island, with planned excursions to the beaches, rainforest, and many natural wonders. The area is safe, and the accommodations are modest but clean. We offer shared-occupancy rooms with basic amenities like linens and hot and cold running water. You'll also have access to phones and the Internet. You'll find the scenery of Dominica to be just as lovely as the people Dominica is a very small island in the Caribbean, 1400 miles southeast of Miami. It lies between the French islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique, in an arc of islands known as the Lesser Antilles. It is known as the "Nature Island" of the Caribbean. Much of its territory is pristine, full of unspoiled beaches and rainforest. It's an adventurer's paradise. The terrain ranges from mountain peaks of 5000 ft. to sea level. One could spend days exploring its tropical rainforests, mountains, rivers, and waterfalls, not to mention the crystal clear seawaters surrounding the island. Its primitive green beauty is colored by an inexhaustible array of flora. The trees are laden with a huge variety of fruits year round. Best of all, you don't have to share it with hordes of tourists! |
